San Diego Computer-Using Educators (SDCUE) is one of the local affiliates of Computer-Using Educators (CUE). CUE is the oldest and largest organization in the United States dedicated to learning, teaching and technology. As an affiliate, SDCUE provides support for members through local meetings and other activities.

SDCUE has held an annual Technology Conference (originally called Software Festival then Technology Fair) since 1984. We expect around 350 educators to attend the 2010 event.

There will be over 50 presentations offered throughout the day. The program is designed to have offerings for teachers, administrators and IT coordinators with topics that cover a wide range of curriculum areas. Our program targets both the novice and the experienced technology user.

A major focus of the SDCUE Technology Conference is on integrating technology (software and hardware) into the existing curriculum with the intent of improving instruction. This year there will also be science sessions arranged by San Diego Science Educators Association and the San Diego Area Writing Project.

Presenters are invited because they add to the range of offerings. Presenters model training so teachers and administrators can return to their campuses more able to guide others at their site in ways to use technology to improve their instructional techniques, the learning of their students, and how to more efficiently manage that instruction. Presenters demonstrate how different programs work, and they discuss attributes that need to be considered before a school or district purchase is made. Presenters are encouraged to develop handouts or websites so attendees have information to share and refer to after the event.

At the end of the event, attendees are invited to complete an evaluation form. This information is used to plan the next SDCUE Technology Conference.

There is a vendor area where attendees can see and ask questions about new materials designed for the classroom. Vendors presentations are also a part of the program. The Vendor area will be arranged in the gym of El Cajon Valley High School.

For many years the event was held at the San Diego County Office of Education, but as that complex became more built up the SDCUE Technology Conference has been held at different schools. This year the event is being held for the third year at El Cajon Valley High School. This is a ideal setting as the campus is on one level, the rooms are clearly labeled and each room has a teacher presentation station.

Technology Conference admission includes a free breakfast. This includes some combination of hot drinks, fruit and power bars. Lunches may be pre-ordered. They include a sandwich, chips, treat and drink. (also fruit or vegetable TBA).

This year we plan a mid-morning vendor area event TBA.

The day ends with all attendees gathering in the vendor area for door prizes and ending remarks.

The organizers of the event are all volunteers.

We are proud to again offer this professional development opportunity to educators of San Diego County.

Are you an educator with information and excitement to share?

We hope you will consider submitting an application to speak at the November 6, 2010 SDCUE Technology Conference! In past years there have been over 300 attendees – all eager to hear about new and nifty ways technology is being used in education. For inspiration, click here to download the program from last year’s event.

This year San Diego Science Educators Association board members have again joined SDCUE in organizing the Technology Conference. As a result, there will be sessions of special interest to science educators as well as computer-using educators!

Early submissions help us in our planning and are appreciated. Please submit by Sept 15 2010.

Fellows of the San Diego Area Writing Project are also being invited to present.

Sessions are 45-minute, lecture-style presentations that address all areas of the curriculum and appeal to a variety of educators. Most rooms will have up to 30 seats for audience members. More information is included in the speaker application.

As before, there will be a few rooms available for hands-on presentations – please make your request on the speaker application.

Handouts: Please provide an appropriate number of handouts, and if you run out please provide a way for audience members to contact you to download a copy of your handout. SDCUE/SDSEA can not reimburse you for handouts and we do not permit you to charge for handouts. If you send us the file for your handout we will attempt to upload the file so it is available the day of the event.

Our attendees range from novice to very experienced educators and technology users interested in hearing about the variety of ways technology is used or can be used in education. Additionally, sessions that focus primarily on science topics or the writing process are welcome too!

The committee will provide complimentary registration for the primary and first co- speaker of each non-commercial session. Please see the Speaker Application for more information.

If you are a commercial presenter, please complete the same speaker application form. Please be sure to select the commercial option when preparing your speaker application.

Vendor Information is posted.

You are invited to attend the 27th Annual SDCUE Technology Conference. This year presented by both San Diego Computer-Using Educators and San Diego Science Educators Association.

In previous years, around 400 educators have come to hear the presentations and see the vendor area. This year we will have six time slots throughout the day – each with around 10 sessions – and some time dedicated to visiting the exhibitors, so there will be plenty of choices for you. This event is being held for the third year at El Cajon Valley High School – a nice campus, just off interstate 8, all on one level, and easy to get around.

The program for the event will be posted after the first week in October. (Click here to download the PDF of the program from last year – this year there will again be SDSEA science presentations.) The focus of the presentations will be 1) new and successful ways to use technology in the classroom and 2) sessions focusing on engaging science instruction.

We are proud to offer this professional development opportunity to educators of San Diego County – always at a reasonable fee. This year, thanks to the help of your board, SDSEA members are eligible for the member discount for pre-registration.

Pre-registration will be set up soon.

We start the day by opening registration at 7:30am so you can get your registration packet, put on your nametag, grab some coffee, and look over the printed program and material. You’ll have time to go through the vendor area too, before going to your first presentation at 8:30am. (The vendor area will be open through out the event.) The conference ends around 3:15 with everyone going to the vendor area for final remarks and door prize drawings!

Please invite your administrator to come to the event! ALL administrators (Principals, VP’s and district administrators) receive a free registration!

Please visit http://sdsea.org or http://sdcue.org site to see more information on this event!

If you would like more information, please let me know. Suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks!
