SDCOE: iVIE Ceremony

As you may have heard, the iVIE ceremony was postponed due to an overwhelming demand for tickets. To move to a larger venue, we also had to change the date to Tuesday, June 9th. Now, with almost 3000 seats at the San Diego Civic Theatre, we are inviting you to attend:

The excitement of technology creates magic in the classroom through creative thinking and student collaboration. We are inviting you to help us support the Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) program by attending the 8th annual iVIE Film Festival and Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 9th, from 6:00 PM to 7:45 PM, at the San Diego Civic Theatre. The iVIE Red Carpet event will precede the ceremony at 5 PM on the plaza in front of the theater. You won’t want to miss the proud faces of the students waiting to be interviewed by San Diego news celebrity Ruben Galvan. An audience of over 2000 students, teachers, and parents is expected to be in attendance at this academy awards-like ceremony, hosted by Fox 5 News’ Kathleen Bade.

The San Diego County Office of Education operates the iVIE program, which is one of the most successful student and faculty digital media programs in the nation. The K-12 program consists of video-related training seminars, a film festival and competition. It is designed to reward the use of video to support curriculum standards and create a fun, thus more engaging learning environment.

The costs of the iVIE program are completely underwritten by business, educational, and individual sponsors, including Sony, Time-Warner, National University, City of San Diego Environmental Services, Adobe, and Apple. With their generous support, we are able to provide students with a valuable presentation tool they can use in academic endeavors and in their careers. The students’ memories of being honored on the iVIE stage will last a lifetime.

If you want to inspire your teachers and technology leaders with awesome student-driven video projects, please bring them to the ceremony. No reservations are required.

Help Needed: Graduate Student Requests You to Complete Survey

    Dear K-12 Teacher,

Katie McNamara, a researcher graduate student at California State University San Marcos and the University of California, San Diego, is conducting a study of perceptions based on experiences from teachers participating in online professional development. As an assistant superintendent of a school district, she knows how important this emerging model is for schools.

The study objectives are to determine how teachers participate in online professional development and how these experiences positively impact teacher learning and effectiveness in the classroom.

You are being asked to complete an electronic survey on Survey Monkey if:

    1. You are a K-12 public or private school teacher
    2. You have participated in an online professional development experience that positively impacted your teaching
    3. The online professional development targeted a content area as opposed to learning to use technology

This voluntary and anonymous survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. You may answer as many or as few questions as you choose.  Your input would be greatly appreciated.

If you are willing to participate in the survey please click on the following link:

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=IroWVFs8vSMqwkuIJz7EPg_3d_3d

If you have questions about the study, you may direct those to the researcher, Katie McNamara at (858)229-9249 or katielmcnamara@gmail.com.  You may also contact the researcher’s advisor/professor, Dr. Katherine Hayden at (760) 750- 8545 or khayden@csusm.edu. This study has been approved by the Cal State San Marcos Institutional Review Board (IRB). Questions about your rights as a research participant should be directed to the IRB at (760) 750-4029 or irb@csusm.edu.

    THANK YOU for your participation!
